![🌱 Happy Ontario Agriculture Week! 🌱
Shoutout to all the amazing plant grain and produce farmers across Ontario—your dedication fills our plates with fresh, vibrant, and sustainable foods that help our communities and our planet thrive! 🍞🥕🌾
Did you know that shifting towards a plant-based diet can make a big difference for Earth's health? In Canada, eating more plant-based meals has been shown to lower greenhouse gas emissions, land use, and water use compared to animal-based diets. According to research, plant-based diets can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 50% globally and use 50-87% less land compared to traditional Western diets based on animal products.
The United Nations reports that about a third of all human-caused greenhouse emissions comes from food, with the largest share linked to agriculture and animal farming[5]. Choosing grains, legumes, fruits, and veggies grown by Ontario's farmers helps create a food system that’s kinder to our climate, soil, and water resources—and present and future generations.
Call to action : Canadians can also ask their cities to support the Plant Based Treaty, so communities make more plant-based food choices together for a better future
Let’s celebrate Ontario’s plant growers, nourish our bodies, and protect our environment—one delicious local bite at a time! 🌽🍎💚
